Impact of Leadership Style



In today's changing environment every organisation is facing a challenge in to select the appropriate leadership style that can offer assistance to extend the motivation, job satisfaction and innovation of their workers.
The rapid changes in today's competitive world have forced organizations to explore for ways to progress the level of employee's motivation, job satisfaction and innovation. Since leadership has an influencing relationship with above factors, choosing the foremost fitting leadership style is the most crucial and complex task for every organisation. 


WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?
Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal. (Kruse, 2013). Leaderships involves persuading other people towards a common goal which is important for the welfare of a group and only occurs when others willingly adopt to the goals of the group as their own. (Horgan, et al., 1994)  


WHO IS A LEADER?
A leader could be a single person or a group of people who will be involved in the process of selecting, facilitating, training and influencing a follower or a group of followers who have diversified nature of characteristics, abilities and skills.  The leaders will be concentrating on the activities of followers and direct and motivate them towards achieving the goals and objectives of the organisation. (Winston & Patterson , 2006)



CLASSIFICATION OF LEADERSHIP STYLE
Leadership style is the way how leaders are behaving with their subordinates and direct them to achieve organisational goals and objectives. As cited by (Omolayo, 2007) Lewin, Lippit and White (1939) have identified three main leadership styles which reflects the different approaches of leaders.












1.      AUTOCRATIC LEADERSHIP STYLE
In this style, the leader keeps the decision-making authority and control in their own hands.  This type of leaders they structure the work situation on their own way and expects other to follow his orders and tolerate.

2.      DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP STYLE
In this type of leadership style, subordinates are always encouraging to participate in decision making process and their ideas and initiatives considered for final decisions.
  
3.      LAISSEZ-FAIRE LEADRSHIP STYLE
In this type of leadership style subordinates are given full freedom to structure and plan their work on their own and leaders are not get involved in decision making. They just act as a figure head.

THE IMPACT OF PARTICPATIVE LEADERSHIP STYLE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF AB BANK PLC. 

AB bank PLC is an upcoming commercial bank which is operating in full conformity to the non interest based Islamic Banking model. Having identified the importance of creating a committed, motivated and loyal workforce, the management always concentrates in participative leadership style within the organisation.
The bank has taken initiatives to encourage its group members to demonstrate initiatives and creativity and take interest in setting plans and policies and have maximum participation whenever needed.
Due to the above approach the bank has been able to develop a dedicated workforce over the past two years with high employee morale and could be witnessed through the succession and growth that the bank achieved over the past two years.
